About Us
History:
In 1989 Doug and Casey Harrison's uncle, Phillip Harrison,
drove into the family hunting lease with an unusual " hunting rig" in the back
of his truck. Uncle Phillip had mounted an aluminum Genie light bulb changer
designed to change light bulbs mounted in high ceilings and mounted it in the
back of his truck. He then took a tripod blind and by removing the legs he was
able to mount the cage portion of the blind on to the platform of the Genie
light bulb changer. The blind had to be elevated by turning a hand crank. He
was nearly laughed out of camp until they saw how well it worked and watched
Uncle Phillip hunt in a variety of location that season.
He told his nephews, Casey, Doug, and Brad Harrison, he thought
they could build a better blind than he had. Doug, who was known as being
"mechanically gifted" and Casey and Brad, who were known to have a "keen sense"
about what they would want in a "dream hunting blind" decided to put their
talents together and make a hunting blind that would be more user friendly than
Uncle Phillips. They decided that the hunting blind needed to be a hydraulic
lift where the hunter could raise and lower the lift while being inside the
blind. They also agreed it needed to be mounted in the back of their trucks for
mobility, but also be able to remove it after hunting season if
needed.
By the next hunting season the Harrison brothers had "built a
better mouse trap" and everyone in the family that hunted had one made for
them. The season was used to test the durability and functions of the lift.
Well, it didn't take long before the Harrison's were being stopped by strangers
everywhere asking them where they bought their blinds.
In 1991 the Harrison brothers started their sideline business,
Hy-Lift Hunting Blinds, Inc. Hy-Lift sold more blinds it's first year than they
had ever dreamed of.
